Malta Fairs and Convention Centre Mediterranean Conference Centre
  • Convention Centres

Just to make sure that you have a choice where to chose from, the Maltese have built two convention centres… one in the 16th century and the latest one in the 21st century.

Our ancestors, back in 1574, started working on this edifice which back then had to serve as a “Sacra Infermeria” within the fortified walls of Valletta.  The biggest hall within the building, measuring 155 metres in length, was at that time one of the largest in Europe and was described as “one of the grandest interiors in the world”. The Sacra Infermeria was considered to be one of the best hospitals in Europe and could accommodate 914 patients in an emergency.  During the British period is served first as a hospital and then as Police Headquarters.  In the late 20th century, several attempts at restoration and reconstruction of the derelict building were made, with a final effort during 1978 when the building was transformed into the present Mediterranean Conference Centre. The Centre was inaugurated on the 11th February 1979, and was awarded the coveted Europa Nostra Diploma of Merit for the “superb restoration of the Sacra Infermeria and its adaption for use as a conference centre.”

The most recent one is the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre erected in Ta’ Qali, originally a military aerodrome of the Royal Airport during the second world war.  The 7000 squared metre venue lies next what used to be the landing strip.  The MFCC is a spacious high-ceilenged space which provides conference and meeting organisers the space to create stunning events. With a capacity of 2,500 tiered seats and 7,500 flat seats for delegates, MFCC can be used for large or small conferences.  Although in terms of history, it cannot be compared to the Mediterranean conference centre, however it is definitely second to none when it comes to flexibility of the space.  This venue also offers a one-stop shop for your event having sister companies offering a range variety of services indispensable to organise an event such as large format printing, audio visual rental, stage designing and rigging, rental of marquees and security.

    The choice is only yours.
